Presten Warren is a descendant of the Dieri and Wirangu nations, original custodians of the northern regions of South Australia. He works out of a studio in Port Lincoln, creating and telling his stories along the Eyre Peninsula. Presten strives to capture Country and utilise his voice through his work to interpret the world around him.
Presten says: “By using a modern layered system, I feel a wave of calm through my soul while still echoing a sense of connection to all things in their natural state. When I start creating a piece that feels mysterious to me and it suddenly reveals itself, I look back at it thinking ‘There you are’.”
This work captures Presten Warren’s connection to Country. It speaks of the Dieri & Wirangu nations coming together by the rivers, in the lakes, through the deserts and around the native boundaries of tribal land.
The meeting of and the relationships cultivated between ‘Two Tribes’ has eventually led us here. To Presten’s depiction of the miraculous series of events which led to his existence and the stream of consciousness we are currently appreciating.
